Solomon ALTMAN Obituary
Solomon, age 91, of Fair Lawn, NJ, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014. Sol was born in Antwerp, Belgium. He was a textile printer for Allied Textile Printing Company in Paterson, NJ and later was a postal worker for the United States Postal Service in Fair Lawn. Sol served in the US Army during WWII and received the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts among many other Medals of Honor. He was a member of the Senior Friendship Club in Fair Lawn. Sol is survived by his wife of 30 years, Frances (nee Cahn), of Fair Lawn, NJ, his son Frank and his wife Diane of Clearwater, FL, and his daughter Robyn Stowell of Groton, MA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Stacey and her husband Brian Nicholos of Hillsborough, NJ and Katelyn Stowell of Groton, MA and Kevin Stowell of Boston, MA, and two great-granddaughters, Amelia and Charlotte Nicholos. Sol is predeceased by a son, Alan K. Altman. Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Louis Suburban Chapel, 13-01 Broadway (Route 4 West), Fair Lawn, NJ. Burial to follow at the Zion Camp #6 Cemetery, Dewey Avenue, Saddle Brook, NJ. Donations in memory of Solomon Altman may be made to Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834. alz.org

Sol was my neighbor and friend for many years and I came to know him as a devoted family man and a kind and giving person.He was always willing to offer his advice on many subjects, especially gardening. His life story was filled with many tales, which he freely shared with me, including a world war he was proud to be a part of and his employment with the USPS as well as his accomplishments in the printing industry, which we had in common.
I will miss Sol, deeply, but will keep his memory in my heart.
