Steve Matson Obituary

MATSON Steve of Mahwah, NJ passed away June 8, 2007 at the age of 76. Born in Mahwah, NJ, Steve leaves behind his companion Susanna Roussos who cared for him for many years of his illness, his three children Steven and his wife Debra, Mark, and Patricia, three grandchildren, Zachary, Jarrett, and Melanie, one sister Nell Manolkos, and predeceased by one brother Joseph. And his devoted friends who visited him faithfully, Dr. Gerald, Kass his daughter Emmy Kass, Dr John Arrigo and wife Joyce, John Solukowski, Dr Peter Connolly, Allan Kidd, Albert Kidd, Brian Sichol, Bobby and Marion Golden, John and Jean Zrelack, Harold Parano, Buzz and Maryann, Thomas Seabury, Helen Zabriski, and Bill Wilson. Steve was a member of the Mahwah Elks, VFW in Suffern and American Legion, He was a hard worker, quiet and always ready to help. He always had a big smile and big hello for everyone, to keep up with him you needed roller skates. He loved deep sea fishing, and Scuba Diving in South America when he was younger. His first love was piloting hid red white and bell G42-2 helicopter which he still has for over 40 years. At 19 he became a licensed pilot, his first bank account in which he deposited .25 cents a week, at 16 he was a student pilot at 15 he purchased first property, at 17 Civil air patrol, Rockland County, In 1952 he was drafted in the Army he was a Motor Sgt. After his discharge he opened Valley Auto Body in Mahwah, he went to Pace College for business administration. At one time operating 4 businesses at once, Torne Mountain Sand & Gravel, Oak Restuarant, Valley Limited Contraction Comp. And Ramapo Landfill. He was District Fire Warden in the Bureau of Forestry, as a pilot he assisted search and rescue for NJ Forest Service, he loved life, and loved Mahwah, his friend, helicopter, and his dog, Sport. He used at always say Mahwah Police Department is the best in New Jersey and the Ambulance Corp were there for him in his time of need, he will be missed. Steve's Funeral Service will be held on Friday June 15, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Scarr Funeral Home Inc Route 202 Suffern, burial will follow at Mahwah Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
