Steven FERNANDEZ Obituary

FERNANDEZ
Steven, 26, entered eternity on September 5, 2016 as a result of a tragic traffic accident in Louisiana. He was traveling with his much loved girlfriend, Danielle Carballeira. Steven was the beloved son of Glenn and Lori Fernandez of Bergenfield NJ. He is predeceased by his cherished father, and dearly loved Uncle George earlier this year. Steven is also predeceased by his beloved Abuelo (paternal grandfather) Mario, and his maternal grandparents, Baba Murray and Nonna Betty Itzkowitz. Steven's adoring family members include his paternal (grandmother) Abuela Marie, Uncle Alan & Aunt Laura Fernandez, cousins Dawn and husband Steve Quigley and baby Lukas, cousin Danielle, husband Andrew Hays and children Jackson, Juliana and Carter, Aunt Nancy Fernandez, cousins Isabel and Iris, Uncle Paul and Aunt Sherrie Fernandez son Gary and wife Jennifer Reininga and cousin Kylie, Aunt Jackie Martin and cousins Lisa, Jennifer and Bethany and Aunt Donna Itzkowitz and cousin Rebecca. Steven leaves behind a multitude of friends, his Godparents Barbara and Guillermo Quinones and Godbrothers Guillermo and Edouard, Titi Connie and his Godsisters Netis and Desiree and Godbrothers Nicholas, Nathaniel and Noah, coworkers, fraternity brothers and former classmates who are devastated and bereft by his passing. He was extremely proud to be a graduate of Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell NJ class of 2008 and St. Johns University, Jamaica NY class of 2013. He absolutely enjoyed and was challenged by his job at IHEARTMEDIA where he was excelling as an account executive. Steven was a bright ray of sunshine and lit up any space he entered. His smile was electrifying and his laughter infectious. People were instantly drawn to him and his sense of humor, sarcasm and wit. He smiled with his eyes and had a lust and joy for life. He believed in living large. Steven was a great sports fan, enjoyed anything that involved a ball and loved coaching youngsters in baseball. In fact, he so loved mentoring two youngsters living next door Angie and Christian that they formed a unique and loving family along with their parents Ted and Tania. Steven was a dedicated brother of the Pi Kappa Phi National Fraternity Alpha Xi chapter. He became a member in the Fall of 2008 (Mu Class). As a brother he exemplified service as well as duty, and in the following spring of 2009 became Chaplin, or most commonly known as chapter ritualist. Aspiring to greatness, as Steve was known for, he would later become Treasurer in 2010 and organize all of the fraternity's finances. Steven was adamant that the upcoming classes know their history, and embody the principles that our fraternity was found upon. So much so he would take the seat of Warden, while also holding a positions on Standards Board and Risk Management in 2011. All in an effort to ensure the education, development, and safety of our new associate members. Steven worked tirelessly to improve our chapter and make sure that its legacy lived and prospered. He was a man of character, strength, passion, and generosity. As a friend he would fight for you, and as a brother he would fight with you, but only to make you better. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who met him. He touched everyone he encountered in a special way and was an amazing young man. He was generous to a fault, volunteered at school on every level, was extremely involved in Catholic campus ministry all through grammar, high school and college. In high school he was a Lector, Eucharistic minister, altar server, retreat leader, freshman mentor and tour
