Walter Furr Obituary

FURR
Walter Whitney, was born on February 8, 1929 to the late Oliver and Clara Furr in Englewood, NJ.
He attended Dwight Morrow High School and graduated in 1948. In July of 1948, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Before being honorably discharged in July of 1952 he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Walter (Whitney to his close friends) joined- and integrated- the Englewood Fire Department in 1954. He proudly and bravely served the City of Englewood for 30 years before his retirement.
Walter belonged to Jephthah Lodge #89 Prince Hall Masons in New York City where he served as a Past-Master and sat on the Board of Trustees. Walter Furr is a 33rd Degree Mason, a member of The King David Consistory and a member of Medina Temple #19 Shrine. He shared his love of our country through The American Legion Post 58 in Englewood. A Lifetime Member of The American Legion through Post 58 in Englewood--he held the position of Chaplain, as well as Bergen County Chaplain.
He was a man of faith, conviction and purpose. His keen wit and wry sense of humor will be missed by all. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving family and many, many caring friends.
Respects may be paid at Eternity Funeral Services located at 129 Engle Street in Englewood, NJ. Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Sunday November 1, 2015. A funeral service will take place at 10 AM on Monday November 2, 2015 at Eternity Funeral Services with interment following at Brookside Cemetery in Englewood.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter Furr, be sent to the New Jersey Firemen's Home located at 565 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton New Jersey 07005.
