Gerald Kessler, 83, formerly of Liberty Center, passed away peacefully July 18, 2025, in the presence of family.
Jerry was born Sept. 26, 1941, in Colton, Ohio, to the late Melvin (Tom) and Mary Kessler, in the same house he grew up in. He graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1959, before enlisting in the United States Air Force where he met his soulmate, Janice Eymer.
Jerry and Janice were married nearly 62 years (or 124 if you asked Jerry!) They met on a blind date - just like Janice's parents did!
Jerry is survived by his wife; his children, Steve (Jodi) Kessler of Allendale, Michigan, Dan (Karen) Kessler of Liberty Center, Ohio, and David (Andrea) Kessler of Delta, Ohio; his grandchildren, Jacob, Alaina (fiance' John), Allison, Jeremiah (fiance' Olivia), and Sam; sisters, Susan Rudolph of Napoleon, Ohio, and Sherie Gerken of Colton, Ohio; and friends that feel like family, Dorothy Frankforther, Arla Bennett, The Hobbins Family and Donna Hurula.
Jerry worked for Campbell Soup Co. after serving in the Air Force. He earned an associate degree in electrical engineering from Northwest State Community College in 1975.
The family moved to the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1976 and Jerry became an electrical engineer with Cloverland Electric Co-Op for 25 years.
Jerry loved the out of doors and his piece of paradise property in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, bee keeping, woodworking and practical jokes. Family traditions like making apple butter over an open fire in a large copper kettle every October brought Jerry immense joy.
