Deborah Merchant Obituary

Deborah J. (Kopetz) Merchant Ocotber 13, 1960 - April 12, 2013 Canterbury - Deborah J. (Kopetz) Merchant 52, of Canterbury died Friday afternoon at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born in Norwich on October 13, 1960 the daughter of Maureen (Gribbin) Kopetz of Bozrah and the late John Kopetz. Deborah was last employed as a clerk for Better Value Store's in Canterbury. She also woked for a number of years as a cafeteria worker for the Norwich School System. She was an avid NASCAR fan, gardener, and Red Sox fan. She loved family, children and music. On May 19, 1984 she married Gordon Merchant in Bozrah who survives her. Besides her husband and mother she is survived by one son Christopher Merchant of Canterbury; one brother, John "Jack" Kopetz and his wife Donna of Bozrah; two sisters, Mary Jane Dougherty and her husband Mike of Woodstock and Susan Piekarski and her husband Daniel of Baltic and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Nellie "Nana" Gribbin and aunt's uncle's and cousins. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 A.M. at the Guillot Funeral Home, 75 South B., St. Taftville. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 6-8 P.M. and Friday 10:00 A.m. until the time of the funeral service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., 1-91 Tech Ctr., Rocky Hill, CT 06067-3045.
