Edward Caughey Obituary

Edward C. Caughey Sr. July 14, 1922 - November 28, 2009 Norwich - Edward C. Caughey, Sr., 87, husband of the late Esther (Ferri) Cau-ghey of 124 Asylum St., died Saturday evening at Orchard Grove in Uncasville, Born in Nor-wich on July 14, 1922, he was the son of the late Edward and Elsie (Hathaway) Caughey. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Air Force having served during World War II. For many years he operated Ferri's Green-houses on Asylum St. in Norwich, then was employed as a carpenter retiring from General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton. Ed was considered a true gentleman by all. He enjoyed golf, salt water fishing, and traveling, and was an avid UConn Women's Basketball Fan and also the Boston Red Sox, and was an honest and hard working person. He was a Past Grand Knight and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. On September 2, 1946 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, he was united in marriage to Esther (Ferri) Caughey who died April 9, 2006. Surviving are his two children and their spouses, Edward C. Caughey, Jr. and his wife Jessica of Kernersville, NC, and Kathleen Jacobsen and her husband Steven of Kennebunk, ME. Three grandchildren, Melissa Crosson, Heather Mitchell, and Meredith Kennedy. Four great grandchildren, Jacob and Madeline Crosson, Ella Mitchell, and Colten Kennedy. One sister Arline E. Ciliano of Norwich, and serveral nieces and nephews. Visitation 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, where the funeral will assembe on Wednesday at 1 p.m. and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at Sts. Peter & Paul Church at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094.

Arlene, I am very sorry to hear of your brother's passing. I know this is very hard on you and all of your family. Think of the good times and remember him at his best. If you need something you know you can call.
