Philip Nicholas Bertorelli May 21, 1931 – May 16, 2014 DANIELSON - Philip Nicholas Bertorelli , 82, a lifetime resident of Danielson, CT passed away at home on May 16, 2014. He was born on May 21, 1931 the youngest of five to the late Louis Sr. and Mary (Longo) Bertorelli. After graduating from Ellis Technical School, Phil joined the army and proudly served in the Korean War. With an Honorable Discharge from the 194th Engineer Battalion on July 15th, 1955, Phil returned home, fell in love with and married Lethia Baton. They were married for 40 years until she passed away in 1996. Phil retired from the Town of Killingly after working at KHS and KMS for over 40 years. His strong work ethic, a trait he passed on to his children, was admired and acknowledged by all who worked with him. Phil was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus for 30 years, where he held multiple officer positions for the St. James Council 2883. His passion was gardening as proven by his many summers of beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. He enjoyed his yearly trips to FL to vacation with his sister or with his daughters and their families. When asked what he was most proud of, he said his children. He is survived by his four daughters, Karin Monroe of St. Petersburg, FL, Deborah Bertorelli of Dayville, CT, Roxana Bertorelli and Michael of Brooklyn, CT and Joanna Desjardin and her husband David of Danielson, CT; seven grandchildren, Ryan Monroe, Megan Monroe, Sarah Hayden, Philip Hayden, Alexis Kaczor, Calvin Desjardin and Thomas Desjardin and three great-grandchildren, Tyra, Jose and Reko, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Belade and sister-in-law Bernadette Bertorelli. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph Bertorelli, Louis Bertorelli Jr. and Augustus Bertorelli. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Troy. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Church, Danielson. Uncle Philip was just a sweet man. He lovingly cared for his brother, Joe, my dad, for many years. He always opened his home to my family when we visited the area. I will miss dining with him at his favorite breakfast/lunch spot down by the train tracks. Though a man of few words (no surprise since he grew up as the baby brother in a family of constant talkers), Uncle Philip always gave it to you straight, which was pleasantly refreshing. His hospitality, concern and candor will be much missed!
