Steven Mitchell Obituary

Steven L. Mitchell Died - July 20, 2012 Thompson - Steven Linwood Mitchell, 52, of Thompson, passed peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones, on Friday, July 20, following a 14 year battle with lung cancer. He was the beloved son of Helena and Paul Linwood Mitchell of Storrs; brother of Keith Arland Mitchell and Alice Lynne King. He was father to Joseph Linwood Mitchell and predeceased by his daughter Tabatha Jean Gaudreau Mitchell, whose mother is Michelle Paquin Mitchell. He was also the long-time life partner to Virginia Houle of Thompson. Steve was the cherished uncle of Jason and Paul King, Keith Mitchell Jr. and Ian Mitchell. He was the nephew of several aunts, uncles, as well as cousins, in Conn., Maine and Arizona. He was the adored grandfather of Carlos and Joey Mitchell, and great uncle to Matthew King. He is the cherished 'Bampa' to Virginia Houle's granddaughters Brooke and Brileigh Suntheimer, and adored 'father' to Ms. Houle's daughters Jenelle, Kaitlyn and Lindsey Burke. Steven was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing were two of his favorite pastimes that he enjoyed with his father, brother, son and nephews. He also enjoyed repairing cars and trucks which he did frequently with his long-time friend "Willi" Wilson of Canterbury. He served ten years in the U.S. Army National Guard, and was a 1978 graduate of E.O. Smith High School in Storrs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steven Linwood Mitchell's name to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org/donate. Relatives and friends may join the family Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 10 - 11 AM at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Rd, Tolland, CT 06084.
