Allison Welch Obituary

Allison A. Welch

July 8, 1969 - January 2, 2025

Allison A. Welch, 55, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at her home at Beaver Lake, with her husband, sons and dogs beside her.

She was born July 8, 1969, at Ogallala, the daughter of Jack S. and Beverly (Buck) Pollock. Allison attended a one-room country school in rural Keith County until sixth grade. She graduated from Ogallala High School in 1987 and received a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Nebraska in 1991.

Allison was a fifth-generation Nebraskan. Her parents published the Keith County News in Ogallala for over thirty years. She had the blessing of growing up on the south shores of Lake McConaughy where she spent much joyous time with her family and friends, sailing, skiing and enjoying campfires on the beach, even in the middle of winter.

While at the university, she was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, serving as rush chair, and was involved in many activities, including student government.

On Aug. 22, 1998, she married Lawrence E. "Larry" Welch, Jr. at Ogallala. Welch, a lawyer who currently serves the State of Nebraska as a judge on the Court of Appeals. Allison and Larry lived at Beaver Lake and were blessed with three sons, Lawrence (Buck), Benjamin, and Jack. Their family's joyful and loving bond was a model and light for their many friends and loved ones.

Before starting a family, Allison was an incredibly successful salesperson for CSG, a national billing solutions company. More recently, she found joy in teaching yoga classes at the local community center and was passionately involved in the local school. She served on the Conestoga Board of Education and was the Board President at the time of her passing. She also served on the PTO, including a term as President; the Conestoga School Foundation, including service as Chair; and was a Board member and Chair of the Conestoga School Board Association. Allison was recognized for her innovative leadership in raising funds and planning Conestoga School's Outdoor Classroom, which was certified and nationally featured by the Arbor Day Foundation. In 2023, Allison received the Ann Mactier Leadership for Learning Award from the Nebraska Department of Education and Nebraska Association of School Boards. Most recently, Allison was proud to have been a leader in a successful campaign to approve a much-needed school bond. Through several failed attempts to approve the bond, she persisted in communicating and promoting the need for funding for critical renovations of the school facilities. She never gave up.

Allison, affectionately known to many as Oopie, was admired and loved for many wonderful blessings and gifts, including these, which were recently described by friends, family and other loved ones: beautiful soul, devoted to her boys, intelligent, humble, brave, tough, feisty, kind, truly good soul, the best person, amazing, hilarious, the funniest, comedic, witty, a true human jewel, sweet, caring, loving, bright, a bright soul, thoughtful, fun, twinkling eyes, infectious smile, one of a kind, smart, beautiful, an inspiration, and razzle-dazzle level beautiful.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Hon. Lawrence Edward Welch, Jr.; three sons, Lawrence Buck Welch, Benjamin Jack Welch and Jack Thomas Welch; brother, Andrew Pollock and his wife, Dr. Kris Pollock; parents-in-law, Lawrence Edward Welch, Sr. and Nicoline Marie Welch; siblings-in-law, Kathleen Welch Markel and Daniel Markel, Michael and Serina Welch, Daniel Welch, Thomas and Piper Welch, David Welch, and Victoria Welch Senna and Michael Senna; and 20 beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Allison A. Welch Conestoga Educational Scholarship Fund.

We started our friendship with Allison in 1993 working at CSG. We use the term "working" loosely, because being around Allison was never work. Brilliant, hardworking, absolutely fashion forward, artistic, always willing to help, selfless, relentlessly supportive, boundless energy and fun. Privileged and blessed to have been friends ever since. Life was sweeter with you Allison. Love ya Al.

We only knew Allison as a fellow parishioner of
Church of the Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth. But we had many chances to witness her love of her faith and family and to watch her courage and she bravely faced her illness. Her three sons are fine young men and a testament to the love and devotion she had for her family. She was a beautiful Christian witness to us and may she rest in Dear God's peace.

Allison was such a bright light when she came into the school. She gave so much to Conestoga, her volunteer projects such as Cougar Hollow live on. She was a wonderful mother of fantastic boys. Allison was so humble and made everyone feel special. Prayers for Larry and the boys. Allison, your bright light will be missed.

I was blessed to be in Allison's presence for many different reasons. She was the sweetest, most humorous and heartfelt soul. Our community will not be the same without her graceful presence and drive. Our yoga community will miss her always. Praying for comfort for Larry and their family. Rest in peace dear Allison.

Allison was a friend and leader of Conestoga Education. As a teacher in the district where she served on the school board for many years, I witnessed that she displayed care and concern for education in a way few have ever achieved. As a mother she raised three outstanding examples of students that all were proud to teach, coach, and nurture to become caring men with many hopes for their future and improving all futures. There is very few that accomplished so much in their lifetime as she did and so sad to see her gone much too soon. My condolences to her husband and all three boys I had such a pleasure to teach in their high schools year. Allison, you will be missed so much, but rest in peace.

Our condolences and sincere sympathy from the Conner family and Valentine. I will always remember how Allison took Quin under her wing as a first year teacher. That kind of sincerity is who she was! Such sincere, loving people are hard to find. She was a special one. I know you will miss her forever but the legacy she left with you last your lifetime. Bless each of you, Keith and Sally Conner in Valentine, NE

Our hearts go out to Larry, the boys, and all of those so close to Allison. There is a saying, that behind every successful man is a great woman. Pretty confident that is the case within the Welch family. Although our experiences with her were limited, we never observed anything but one of the classiest women we've ever met. May those wonderful memories engraved in each of your hearts bring a smile to your face each time they come to mind--and may they come to mind often. Conni and DC
