It’s hard to understand why people are taken from us, but I find comfort in knowing that “Gus” was a part of my life for 66 years. In 1942 my Mother purchased a home in the 700 block of Pine Street. I was 7 years old at the time. Carl Berglund (I always called him Gus) lived in the 800 block of Pine Street (now named Bailey Street. We lived, played, and grew up in this neighborhood and enjoyed the same things and were always at each others houses. We attended our Redeemer Lutheran Church School through the 8th grade and always rode our bikes to school even in the Winter time. We were in the Church Choir, completed our catechism classes and confirmed in 1948. We graduated from North Platte High School in 1952. I joined the Air Force after graduation and lost contact with Gus for several years. We both attended the High School Class Reunion in 1972 and from that date on we continued our close friendship. Although I live in Alabama, I would return to North Platte each year for family reunions and I would contact Gus and his wife so that we could have quality time together while we were there. When your heart is empty, filling it with happy memories can help. Memories of love and friendships of Carl Berglund (Gus) are treasures that will be carried with me always.

Love and prayers to Gus’ family from Glenn Wayne Crouse (and Elizabeth)

I was saddened to hear about Carl's death. He was a good person and I was lucky enough to have him for a brother-in-law for 13 years. I know you have all lost a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed. I know my son, Scott, is upset about his uncle's passing. I will keep all of you in my prayers.
