This has been tough. Everytime I come here to write something my tears blind me. I will forever love and miss you Mom.

I met Dee about 40 years ago. We became friends instantly. (Of course everyone was instant friends with her) Soon we started hanging out and having fun together. If you know her, she would make anything fun. I adopted her as my Mom and she would call me her daughter. She took me on my very first trip garage saleing. Donna, Lisa, Onie, Peggy & I would be included on these laugh filled days. Donna, Onie, Peggy and Mom telling stories that would cause tears to run down my face from laughing so hard. Those Clement ladies have that gift.

Its difficult to put into words what this woman and her husband means to me. They are the best Grammy and Granddad that my kids had, gave them unconditional love that only a grandparent can give. Mom, you rescued me. I miss both of them. Now after 20 years they are together again, watching over all of us.

Heaven is so full of laughter with another Clement sister getting her wings. I miss you Mom! You enriched my life, my kid's lives and everyone's lives who had the honor of meeting you.

I have so many wonderful memories of you, but I feel like I need more. I love you big bunches!

Grammy wore many hats and was many things to many people. For me, she was always Grammy.

Every visit home started with the squeak of her screen door and her ever cheerful voice almost singing "oh goodie goodie goodie" doing her little happy dance waiting on that first hug. All her hugs were full of warmth and overflowing with love, but that first hug it was different. It was as if Grammy was holding her breath from the last hug till this one. They lasted just a little longer and were just a little tighter.

Grammy and I were very close, or as she liked to say we shared very special connection. I often, mostly teasing, made her admit that I was her favorite. Then after giving into me she would quickly say "but don´t tell anyone I don´t want them to get jealous."
My response was always "but that´s the point."
Knowing her she could have never held a favorite, but I´m still going to claim that it was me.

I learned so many things from her. Important lessons like the only reason to have dinner is to get to dessert, or that there´s always room for a scoop of ice cream and a cookie after a long day. She also taught me that that the family we pick for ourselves is just as important as the one we start with. She was quick to "adopt" and created a truly massive family for herself. I would often share stories of my best friends and their two little girls. She was quick to make sure that I told them she was their Grammy now too, and how lucky I was to have such special people in my life.

By far the most important life lesson was that it was ok to be me. For the obviously flamboyant little gay that was not an easy lesson to learn. It´s a lesson I still sometimes need to remind myself of.

Grammy, thank you for the being the person I needed.

Thank you for all the memories. You are right, we are very fortunate to have made so many.

I miss you.

I love you.

Thoughts & Prayers to all who were privileged to know Dee. Her smile was a ray of 'sunshine'. Her favorite song was 'You Are My Sunshine'! I will carry her memory for the rest of my life.

Grammy was big on making your bed every day when you got up in the morning. We didn´t have too many chores at her house, but that was the one she wouldn´t let slide. It stuck with me, and every day, without fail, I made my bed in the morning.

Except on the morning after she passed. I just couldn´t find it in me to tuck the sheets and fluff the pillows. I planned to spend most of that day in bed anyway. Then I thought of how she wouldn´t want that.

Grammy is a person to be celebrated, not mourned. She was so much fun and a little spontaneous (not with the grocery list, though - you had to write that down on a post-it before you left the house). She was driven but didn´t take herself to seriously. But most of all, she was so supportive-no matter what you wanted to do, or maybe might´ve done.

More than anything: she was home. For her grandkids (and many others), we knew Grammy´s was where we would all gather. Grammy´s was where, if you needed a place to stay, she´d have the bed made up for you. It was a home of unconditional love, a home of core memories - and it didn´t matter where she lived; she was home.

Things I´ve gleaned from Grammy: laughing out loud, wearing big jewelry that specifically matched my outfit, my love of ice-cream, working hard and making it look like I was hardly working, being kind to people, and always doing your best.

Things I´ll never forget: riding in her van and pretending we were launching a rocket ship up Hall School Rd; playing paper dolls; having a recorded story time during the summer (I still need those tapes); our 4th of July´s at the blue house; the way she sang Happy Birthday; working for her at the Antique Mini Mall and watching Soaps on our lunch break; Monday Fundays; weekly trips to the library; Milkshake and Pizza Wednesdays; Cody Park; all of your fun sayings I repeat to this day... and many more.

But most importantly, it´s the people you brought together to make a family, a community.

I´m so incredibly sad you´re gone, but I´m equally thankful to have had you in my life. "Love ya, girl. Take care of yourself, ok?"

Aunt Dee your truly a beautiful soul! Heaven definitely got a precious angel, I remember summers with you and Grandma Hamel Grammy and sometimes Grandma Clement, you ladies would get your coolotts on, your jewelry & lip sticks and we would hit the town for a day of garage sales. Me being young didn't matter I was with the coolest ladies I knew the Wild bunch. I was so very lucky to enjoy time at your house in the summers , and the opportunity to call you my family! Please hug my mom for me along with all the other family, Thank you for all the happiness you brought to my life, until we meet again, Rest easy Aunt Dee

Aunt Dee has been a blessing to all who's lives she touched. Always a perpetrator of shenanigans as part of the "Wild Bunch", eager to share a laugh, a hug & a helping hand. She was uniquely special. I cherish every wonderful memory of her.
