James Calhoun Obituary

James Lawrence Calhoun, 84, of North Platte, passed away Feb. 2, 2010, at the Golden Living Retirement Village, in Broken Bow.
He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in North Platte, to James and Edna Van Eman Calhoun. James graduated for North Platte High School. He married Betty J. Bates on June 10, 1944.

James was a rancher and cattle buyer who resided north of North Platte. He was a co-owner of Western Livestock for many years and was actively involved in rodeos and the PRCA. He was very active with other ranches, buying and selling cattle. He never knew a stranger and made many friends along life's journey.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of North Platte; daughter, Claudia Calhoun, of North Platte; grandson, Reverend "JC" (Stacey) Calhoun, of Cozad; three great-granddaughters; and a sister Wanda (Cecil) Tuenge, of North Platte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Casey Calhoun; and a brother, Bruce Calhoun.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the Shrine's Crippled Children's Fund and online condolences may be shared at adamsswanson.com.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with the Rev. Duane Dunwoody officiating. Burial will follow at the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be from, noon to 9 p.m., today, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
