John Bunger Obituary

On April 24, 2022, at 6:45 a.m., the Bunger Tribe lost another warrior, John Jeffrey Bunger. On April 29, 1956, John entered this world, the son of John Edward and Mary Ann Bunger. John grew up in North Platte, went to Cody Elementary, was an Eagle Scout, and graduated from the North Platte High School class of '74. After high school, John went to work for Union Pacific and later worked for Burlington Northern in Alliance. John eventually moved back to North Platte to nurse a back injury and spend time with his family, especially his father who had Alzheimer's. In 1996, after the passing of his father, John decided to retire from the dead-end North Platte bar scene and reinvent himself in Porter, Texas, which he did in spades, and also to be near his beloved sister, Christine. John had many passions, hobbies and talents. He loved Mopars, motorsports, water skiing, scuba diving, playing pool, bowling, hunting, golfing, paintball, drag racing, RC car racing, ATV riding....and women. He was very talented with his hands, was a seeker of truth and justice, and was never afraid to engage in political discourse. John wore his heart on his sleeve and was never fake. He had wonderful wit and charm. Not only did he have killer one-liners, but he also had killer "one-worders." John loved most all, and some not at all. John had the heart of a lion, the soul of an angel and was one good-looking son of a gun. He will be deeply missed. John is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Bunger of Yuma, Arizona; his sister, Christine Bunger of Houston Texas; his sister, Julie Engel (Russ) of Yuma; his little brother, Emil "Skeeter" (Jessica) Bunger of North Platte; nieces, Sarah (Christopher) Wright of Yuma, Monica Halligan of Hollywood, California, Seanna Engel of Yuma and Hannah Wright of Yuma; nephews, Jack and Jude Bunger of North Platte; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and a multitude of friends who loved and adored him.
