John Schaefer Obituary

OMAHA - The Rev. Dr. John Schaefer Jr. of Omaha, formerly of North Platte, died March 20, 2007, in Omaha.

John was born Aug. 3, 1935 in Pittsburg. He attended Waynesburg College, graduating with a Bachelor of Art degree in 1957. He then went on to seminary at Bexley Hall, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1960. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1960. John also obtained a Master's of Divinity degree from Bexley Hall in 1974, a master's in social hygiene from Tulane University and later his doctorate in education from the University of New Orleans.

From 1965-1972, John served as director of religious activities for Touro Infirmary Hospital in New Orleans. Throughout his career he served many churches, including churches in Houtzdale and Osceola Mills, Pa., New Orleans, Thibodaux, La., Pass Christian, Miss., and Mountain Home, Idaho. He also did supply work in Mullen. He has numerous certifications, honors and memberships, and has published several papers.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela (Fred) Rahmanian of Leesport, Pa.; his son, the Rev. Dr. John (Margaret) Schaefer III of Omaha; and his five grandchildren, Cyrus, Darius and Maryam Rahmanian, and Daniel and Rebekah Schaefer.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 9302 Blondo St., Omaha, NE 68134. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007, in Foxburg, Pa.

Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler West Center Chapel in Omaha is in charge.
