Robert Furrow Obituary

Robert G. Furrow, 102, of Curtis, died Oct. 25, 2022, in Curtis. He was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Elwood, the son of Verne G. Furrow and Charlotte (Stevenson) Furrow. He moved with his parents to Maywood at the age of 5 and spent the remainder of his life in the Maywood and Curtis areas. He graduated from Maywood High School in 1938, attended McCook Junior College one year, and then attended a government- sponsored sheet metal school in North Platte. After that he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Corporation in Seattle, Washington, until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1942. He spent three years in the Army with the Airborne Engineers in the European Theater of Operations. He joined the Methodist Church at an early age and enjoyed singing in the choir for over 70 years. He also sang in the Curtis Easter Pageant Choir for 50 years, and sang for many funerals. On Feb. 24, 1946, he married Eileen Farrar in Maywood. To this union three sons were born, Michael, Steven and Scott. Following his military service he was in partnership with his father in the grocery business in Maywood for 12 years, was manager of the Frontier County ASCS Office in Curtis for 24 years, then worked for the Maywood Insurance Agency in Maywood for two years before retiring. Besides his church work, Bob was a charter member of the Maywood Lions Club, served on the Maywood school board, village board, community hall board, the volunteer fire department and worked with the Boy Scouts. He was also a past member of the Masons and Elks Club in McCook. Most currently, he was a member of the Maywood American Legion, VFW, Lions Club and the Curtis United Methodist Church. He was fond of the outdoors and had spent much time hunting, fishing, golfing and working in the yard. He also spent many happy years following his three sons in all sports and academic events. He and Eileen traveled extensively, and had visited all 50 states. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Eileen; grandson, Chris Furrow; and his parents. Survivors include three sons, Mike (Jan) Furrow of Lincoln, Steve (Cynthia) Furrow of Ashville, Alabama, and Scott (Susan) Furrow of Wellfleet; two granddaughters, three grandsons, and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 407 East 5th Curtis, NE. 69025, or the Arrowhead Meadows Golf Course. To sign the online guest book, go to blasestrauser.com. Mike and families. Your mom and dad were great friends in elementary and high school. You lived across the street from my grandmother Christine Phillips plus your mom was great friends with my aunt charolett and uncle Warren Saum. You were friends with cousin Ron Saum. We send our condolences. The 28 of October my mom Dorothy Phillips-Folchert would have been 101. We still take a drive to Maywood whenever we are in North Platte as our memories are many. Deedee Faling grocery store. The Albros sisters. Again condolences

Pat Folchert-Faulkner.
