Rocky Lyn Stewart, 67, of Sutherland, passed away at his home on April 20, 2022. Rocky was born May 22, 1954, to Carl William and Erma Gene Velma (Adams) Stewart in Holyoke, Colorado. He went to kindergarten in Grant. The family then moved to O'Neill, where he attended school and graduated in 1972 from O'Neill High School. Rocky joined the United States Marines on Sept. 28, 1972. He was a rifleman and was discharged on Sept. 27, 1978, with a good conduct medal. He was in the Honor Guard in Washington, D.C., from 1973 to 1975. Rocky then went on to work for the Texas Department of Corrections from 1975 to 1982. He then went to work for Union Pacific Railroad in North Platte in 2004 until 2021 when he retired as a train conductor. On Dec. 9, 2010, Rocky married Jackie Moran. He had many hobbies and one was his love for riding Harley's. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and anything outdoors. He also loved cooking, music and just spending time with family and friends, some of who were lucky enough to give him the nickname "Creampuff." Rocky is preceded in death by his father, Carl Stewart; his sister, Carla Jean Stewart; grandparents; and aunts and uncles. Rocky is survived by his mother, Erma Gene; his wife, Jackie Stewart; three daughters, Colleen (Mike) Cornelius and their children, Maggie and Macy; Amanda Carol Harlemen and her daughters, Shelbie and Faith Harlemen and Alexandria (Justin) Jaster, and Cheyenne (Katie) and their son, Archer Stewart; one son, Joshua and his children, Jayden and Cashton Stewart; stepsons, Dan (Heather) Piersol and their children, Jack and Laura Piersol; Corey (Sarah) Piersol and their children, Kori and Lincoln Piersol and Jayden, Jerrica and Jaleigh Curtis and Brandon (Robin) Piersol and their children, Alyssia and Gary Piersol; two brothers, Ron (Teresa) Stewart and Rodney (Barbara) Stewart; two brothers-in-law, Vernon Moran and Ron (Vickie) Moran; sister-in-law, Tammy (Dick) Simonson; great-granddaughter, Addalynn Jaster; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. CT Tuesday, May 3, at Fort McPherson Cemetery, near Maxwell, with Pastor Allan Harris of the Christian Church of Julesburg officiating.
