Roselyn McFarland Obituary

Roselyn I. (Krueger) McFarland

July 9, 1945 - December 14, 2025

Roselyn I. (Krueger) McFarland, 80, of Windcrest, Texas, passed away on December 14, 2025.

She was born on July 9, 1945, to Herbert A. and Elnora K. (Wangen) Krueger in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Rosie attended a one-room country school for a period of time growing up in Minnesota and later in St. Louis. She eventually moved to Kingdom City, Missouri, where she spent much of her time helping on the family farm alongside her dad. She graduated from Fulton High School and was a proud graduate of the University of Missouri. She also spent time as a grad student at the University of Nebraska, where she learned to love the Huskers as well.

On November 27, 1970, she was united in marriage to Robert D. McFarland in Lincoln and was blessed with two sons and a daughter. Rosie was proud of her children and their accomplishments. She was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Platte, where she and Bob resided for the majority of their lives. In her later years, she served on the Board of the Lincoln County Historical Museum, where she played an integral part in helping to launch the Christmas Village.

Rosie loved traveling, reading, genealogy, her family and pets, but above all, she relished being active and playing in the dirt. While she began her time in North Platte as a physical education teacher at NPHS, she discovered her true calling upon opening McFarland Greenhouses, which the family operated from 1977 to 2011. The plants that she grew and loved could be seen lining the streets of all of North Platte or adding spice and flavor to some of the most delicious dishes of local restaurants. She was named Businesswoman of the Year in 2001.

She is survived by her three children, R. Brian (Stephanie) McFarland of Bayard, Gregory (Heather) McFarland of San Antonio, Tex, and Jody (Travis) Lawson of Pleasant Hill, California; grandchildren, Jonah Lawson and Barrett Lawson of Pleasant Hill and Abigale McFarland of San Antonio; her sisters, Kathryn Jensen and Carol (Carl) Lee; her brother, Charlie (Linda) Krueger; and numerous beloved step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the North Platte Public Schools Foundation-Robert & Roselyn McFarland Scholarship. Online condolences may be shared at adamsswanson.com.

Funeral service is at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial follows at the North Platte Cemetery. Guests are invited to wear Rosie's favorite color, green, their favorite floral pattern, or other festive colors found in their gardens. Visitation is from noon to 7 p.m., with family receiving guests from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, December 22, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Rosie was my cousin on my mother's side of the family. We were 21 cousins. Six of us have now passed away.
We had a lot of fun together but have not had the opportunity to see each other often as adults. As I read the obituary, I am finding out a lot more about Rosie than I knew before. She was clearly a person who made a contribution to the world and especially to her community. Her faith was real. Rest in peace, Rosie. To her family I say that I share your sadness.

To the McFarland Family,
My deepest sympathy to you on the passing of Mrs. McFarland. Cherish your memories. I have fond memories of going to purchase her wonderful plants every Spring. Really missed going there when she retired from the greenhouse. Her knowledge of plants was amazing.

We’re so sorry to hear of Rosie’s passing. We’re sending our deepest sympathies to Mr. McFarland, their children and grandchildren. She left an amazing legacy.

Though I knew her only through Mr. McFarland, I knew her character by the way he often spoke so sweetly about her. She was loved deeply.

Prayers for peace and comfort to The McFarlands.
