Edward Tusing Obituary

Edward Lee Tusing passed away at Sunnyside on October 28, 2017 and has gone to be with his beloved wife, Bettie Lou Crider Tusing, who preceded him in death on July 28, 2015.

Lee married Bettie Lou Crider on July 24, 1949 at the original Cherry Grove Church. At her passing they had been married 66 years and four days as he proudly remarked.

He was born August 3, 1931 and was 86 years old and was the only son of Ivan Henry and Daisy Virginia Tusing, who preceded him in death.

As a teenager Lee started working at Cootes Store garage, which started his love of cars. In 1954, he started selling new cars at Alexander Motors in Mayland. His first demonstrator was a white and red Hudson Hornet.

Later, he sold used cars for himself until 1960 he went to Royal Motors and sold Lincolns and Mercuries. After leaving Royal Motors he returned to selling used cars for himself for several years. He then went to Broadway Motor Company selling new and used Ford cars and trucks.

Upon leaving Broadway Motors, he returned to selling used vehicles until he retired. Fifty years of selling cars and trucks-how many did he sell? Note of humor, he did try to sell new Chevrolets, however he said, "They are just not Fords or Mercuries!".

Lee and Bettie built and operated Tusing Family Campground from 1971 to 1983.

He was a member of the Linville Edom Ruritans, a Rockingham County Fair board director and a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Lacey Springs. Over the years he spent many hours volunteering with the Church, Ruritans, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital and ringing the bell for the Salvation Army.

Lee and Bettie enjoyed traveling. They especially enjoyed spending winter months in Florida where they vacationed for over 30 years.

Their love of travel and the Lord even lead them to visit Israel. Lee was especially proud he was able to float in the Dead Sea and was baptized in the Jordan during the visit.

Lee is survived by two children, Steven Henry Tusing and wife Karen, of Broadway and Susan Tusing Pardue and husband Johnny of MCGaheysville; four grandchildren, Brain Tusing and wife Janeea, Kevin Cook of King George, Sarah Mundy of Broadway and Krystal Hill of Keezletown; 10 great grandchildren Emma, Grant and Ava Cook, Jenna Wolf and Gracelyn Hill, Shayleigh, Dixie and Jax Tusing and Ivan and Josie Mundy; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

The Rev. Gary Zigler and Diana Cobb Stultz will conduct a memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Lacey Springs.

Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry Grove Cemetery Fund, 9655 Woodlands Church Road, Linville, VA 22834 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Pl., Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Each time we went to Sunnyside to visit our father/father-in-law we would stop by to check on Mr. Tusing. Sometimes we would sit in the middle and talk. He was such an interesting man and would always thank us for coming to see him. Such a gentle, gentleman. We will keep your family in our prayers. GzThe family of Dutch Simmons
