Kenneth Coffelt Copp, beloved by many, passed from this life on his family farm in Fairview, west of Woodstock, Virginia on August 28, 2024, at the age of 79.
Son of Ernest and Rena Coffelt Copp, Kenneth was born May 7, 1945, in Miller's Hospital in Woodstock, Virginia. He grew up farming, hunting, fishing, and playing baseball, and these remained his lifelong interests. He attended elementary, middle, and high schools in Woodstock.
His primary occupation was as a master plumber. He was first employed by Riddleberger Brothers of Harrisonburg and then Miller & Anderson of Winchester. He worked across the state; a common activity on family trips was searching for and visiting former job sites.
He met his wife, Roulette, in 1968. The two were married 4 years later at Hudson Crossroads Lutheran Church, near Roulette's family farm. Through years of hard work, they raised a family and farmed, focusing on beef cattle, sheep, and hay production. Kenneth was the fifth generation of the Coffelt family to farm the property, recognized as a Virginia Century Farm.
Kenneth was well known for his sense of humor, storytelling, and love of people. He was selfless, always looking for opportunities to help friends, neighbors, and family members, whatever the need. Once he met someone, they were never again strangers. He enjoyed bluegrass concerts, games of horseshoes, playing rummy, and spending time with his grandchildren. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling out West with family, watching Orioles baseball, and doting on his aptly named barn cat, Barney.
He served as a Trustee at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, located in the middle of the family farm. He was a member of Valley Baptist Church in Edinburg. Later in life, he attended Grace Baptist Church in Woodstock and enjoyed volunteering at the Timber Ridge Bible Camp in Highview, West Virginia.
For the last two years of his life, he was lovingly cared for by his wife of 52 years. Together, they faithfully lived out their wedding vow: until death do us part. In addition to Roulette, he was loved by his children Barbara Copp Frederick (John) of Newburg, Pennsylvania and Michael Copp (Melinda) of Maurertown, Virginia; grandchildren, Rachel and Eli Frederick of Newburg, Pennsylvania and Nicole and Cayden Copp of Maurertown, Virginia; and his sister Martha Copp Cline of Woodstock, Virginia.
The family would like to thank Sarah Baker, Holly Dodds, Blue Ridge Hospice, and friends and family for the compassion, comfort, and support they provided to Kenneth and Roulette.
A celebration of Kenneth's life will be held on August 31, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Grace Baptist Church at 1255 Hoover Road in Woodstock with Pastor Ken Sparks officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Hudson Crossroads Cemetery, 2711 Crooked Run Rd, Mt Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Timber Ridge Bible Camp through Grace Baptist Church, 1255 Hoover Road, Woodstock, VA 22664.
