Myra L. (Epperson) Stickel
Myra L. (Epperson) Stickel went to heaven on Monday, March 10th. Myra was 83 and a current resident of Thornwald Home in Carlisle, PA. Born Oct. 28, 1924 in Sparks, Nevada, she was the daughter of the late Blaine and Mayme Epperson. She was the younger sister to the late Rowena Seekins.
Myra graduated in 1943 from Sparks High School. She spent her life caring for her family and serving the Lord through church activities. During her life she was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church (Arlington, VA), Faith Baptist Church (Vienna, VA), Pender UMC (Fairfax, VA), Toms Brook UMC (Toms Brook, VA) and was currently a member of the West Shore Evangelical Free Church (Mechanicsburg, PA). Myra served the Lord by delivering Meals on Wheels in Fairfax, volunteering at the Fair Oaks Hospital and at the Pender UMC Outreach Center. She was an active member of the Mechanicsburg Senior Center from 2005 until Jan. 9, 2008. She had many jobs during her life ranging from being a waitress at the Vienna Drug lunch counter, driving a Fairfax County school bus, driving the first Vienna Transit local transport bus in the 60's and retired as an accounting clerk for American Express Business Travel.
Myra spent approximately 60 years in Northern Virginia with the love of her life, William H. Stickel of Vienna, VA. She leaves behind 3 children, Donna Casey and husband John of Mechanicsburg, PA, Cary Stickel of Richmond, VA, Andy Stickel and wife Lisa of Vienna, VA. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, Brad & Leah Amorin, Alison Jill, Chad & Cassandra Stickel, Jonathan Casey and wife Krissy and Justin Casey and wife Lisa. In addition she leaves 4 great grandchildren, Conner, Nate, Brayden, and Ryan Casey.
Myra found joy in loving her family unconditionally and in helping others. She raised her children and grandchildren in Vienna, VA. She attended every baseball, football, soccer game and school activity for all her children and grandkids and will be greatly missed by her entire family.
A memorial service will be held at Fairfax Baptist Temple, 6401 Missionary Lane, Fairfax Station, VA 22039 on Saturday, March 22nd at 11:00 a.m. A reception will be held at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Thornwald Home, 442 Walnut Bottom Rd., Carlisle, PA 17013.
