Thomas Funkhouser Obituary


Thomas Fletcher Funkhouser, 69, of Edinburg, passed away June 4, 2021, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Unit in Winchester, Virginia. He was born on February 14, 1952, to the late Paul Franklin Funkhouser and Evelyn Virginia (Silveus) Funkhouser in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Tommy joined the US Army on August 10, 1972 and was honorably discharged on August 9, 1978. He received the National Defense Service, Good Conduct, and Riffle Expert Medals. After he returned home to Shenandoah County he worked for a variety of local businesses.

He is survived by one son, Kevin Edward Funkhouser of Broadway, VA; two grandchildren; one sister, Mary Alice Atkins of Woodstock, VA; and two brothers, Ernest Lee Funkhouser of Edinburg, VA and James Franklin Funkhouser (Ava) of Bentonville, VA.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Lear, Nancy Gonzales and a brother, Robert Funkhouser.

A graveside service will be held June 7, 2021, at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Edinburg, VA with Pastor Katie Gosswein officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thomas Funkhouser Burial Fund to Valley Funeral Service, 14116 S. Middle Road, Edinburg, VA 22824.
