Winfred Hess Obituary

Winfred Leroy "Junior" Hess, Jr., 81, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Mr. Hess was born on April 24, 1933, in Luray, Virginia, the son of the late Winfred L. and Valley Mae Hess, Sr.

He attended Handley High School.

Mr. Hess was a Veteran having served in the United States Air Force.

He was the owner and operator of several businesses early in his career. However, he was best known as the owner and operator of Hess Family Auto Center in Winchester (originally Hess Auto Sales), which he operated for over 50 years. Junior loved the car business and his legacy will carry on through his children and grandchildren.

He was also an independent race horse owner and was passionate about watching his horses run.

He was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church in Winchester.

He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Keiter, on April 16, 1952, in Winchester. She remained a loving and faithful wife, and is commended for providing exceptional care for Junior so that he could remain at their residence in a comfortable and loving environment.

Surviving with his wife is his daughter, Debra Hess Bower and husband, Randall; son, David Alan Hess and wife, Darlene, all of Winchester; grandchildren, Ian Weir, Trevor Weir, Shannon Kellas and Davey Hess; great granddaughter, Hannah-Bell Pugh; and brother, James âMaxã Hess and wife, Eleanor, of Winchester.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 30, 2015 evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Robert M. Throckmorton and Reverend Eric Song officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.

Pallbearers will be Ian Weir, Trevor Weir, Davey Hess, Donald Stump, Larry Holliday, Dave Snyder, Gary Grim and Steve Sale.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Keckley, Bobby Ryan, John Ryan and Frank Snapp.
