Andrew Meyer Obituary

HUNTLEY - Andrew F. "Andy" Meyer, 82, of Sun City, Huntley, and formerly of Chicago, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in Elgin.

He was born May 2, 1926, in New York City, the beloved son of the late Andrew F. and Antionette (Neumeier) Meyer Sr. On May 3, 1949, in Chicago, he married Paula Hahlbeck.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran who served during World War II.

He owned and operated, along with his family, Meyer Import Delicatessen on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago for 38 years. This was his passion and life's work. He was a member and former president of the Lake View Lions Club of Chicago and was a trusted real estate agent after his retirement at the delicatessen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Paula; his sons, William F. (Vickie) Meyer of San Diego and Karen (Bruce) Palmer of Algonquin; and his grandsons, Jason and Brian Meyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marion Wagner.

The visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the funeral home. The Rev. David Abrahamson will officiate. Burial will be in Huntley Cemetery in Huntley.

Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Lions of Illinois Foundation, 2814 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
