Eugene Limbaugh Obituary

Eugene Limbaugh
Born: July 6, 1940
Died: May 28, 2025
Eugene Limbaugh, known by everyone as Gene, of Woodstock, IL, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, at the age of 84.
He was born on July 6, 1940, to Robert James and Francis (Trisler, Chumley) Limbaugh in Woodstock, IL. After graduating Woodstock High School in 1958, he married Helen (Lois) Hunt on June 14, 1958. They were married for 66 years.
He had a strong work ethic and willingness to help others, which he demonstrated when he worked at Woodstock Tire in the early '60s, working with a lot of farmers in the area. Those were the days when the service call usually took him to a customer's farm or maybe the farm field. In 1965, Gene partnered with his brother Wayne and they started Limbaugh's Service Center in Woodstock, where their younger brother Lynn joined them for some years. They had a very successful business for 23 years, and took pride having a business that served the public. Many friends were made during those years, as well as good relationships with their employees.
After selling the business in1988, Gene and Lois moved to Lynchburg, TN and started their own business, Limbaugh's Tennessee Emporium. Gene continued the same work ethic and pride, working with the community and building relationships. Gene & Lois enjoyed having friends, and former customers from Woodstock, visit their store in Lynchburg.
Gene grew up with a strong family background and close family connections, so he pursued his interest in genealogy, and researched the Limbaugh family. He found many family members were in Tennessee, so when he started the business in Lynchburg, he enjoyed finding family in the area. He enjoyed the family stories and continued telling the stories to the rest of his family. It was his way of passing on the family history.
Gene was raised with good family values and cherished his time with family. After moving back to Woodstock from Tennessee, he enjoyed time with the grandkids in whatever they were interested in. Teaching them the value of hard work and being proud of their accomplishments was his greatest joy in life.
Interest in the Woodstock community and becoming a history buff was a favorite pastime for Gene. He researched Woodstock service stations, in particular, their history and photos. Places of business in Woodstock, as well as other historians, always appreciated Gene's history knowledge. Gene & Lois also were members of the McHenry County Historical Society, and volunteered their time at the museum in Union, IL.
Gene is survived by his 3 children, Elaine (Tim) Eckert, Lynell (Mike White), and Brad (Beverly); granddaughter, Sara (Matt) Greenwald, grandson Jacob (fiancé Stacy) Schalz; great-grandchildren, Myka, Ronan and Tamsyn Greenwald, and many nieces and nephews who dearly loved "Uncle Gene."
Gene was proceeded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; and brothers, Robert (Wayne) and Kenneth (Lynn) Limbaugh.
Visitation will be held at the Schneider Leucht Merwin Cooney Funeral Home, 10211 N. Seminary Avenue, Woodstock on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 4:00 pm until the memorial service at 6:00 pm. Interment services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the McHenry County Historical Society, 6422 Main Street, Union, IL 60180. https://mchenrycountyhistory.org/
