Gail Rucker Obituary

Gail Rucker
Born: November 9, 1952 in Milwaukee, WI
Died: September 4, 2025 in Barrington, IL
Gail J. Rucker, age 72, of Cary, IL, passed away on September 4, 2025. She was born November 9, 1952 in Milwaukee, WI to her loving parents, Merton and Gloria (née Bruette) Briggs.
Gail's family eventually moved to Chicago, where she graduated from Carl Schurz High School. She worked for 15 years as an Assistant Manager at JayBees before becoming the proud owner and franchisee of the Fox River Grove White Hen Pantry. Her store, located across from the Fox River Grove train station, became part of local history during the tragic school bus accident in 1995, when Gail's strength, composure, and compassion were recognized by many in the community.
This coming November, Gail and her beloved husband, Steven, would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. The two first met at a bowling alley in Chicago, beginning a lifelong love story marked by laughter, loyalty, and unwavering devotion. Together, they built a family and created a home where Gail was the true matriarch. Fiercely protective of her loved ones, she was a guiding force for both her immediate and extended family.
Gail loved lilacs, and found joy in the simple but meaningful pastimes of life. She crocheted countless blankets for family, friends, and art shows, completed puzzles with patience and determination, and treasured every moment spent with her loved ones.
Gail will be remembered for her strength, her dedication, and her boundless love.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Merton and Gloria Briggs; brother, Donald Briggs; sister-in-law, Syl Briggs; niece, Aimee Simmons; and great-nephew, Nico Borchert. She is survived by her husband, Steven Rucker; sons, Charles (Emily) Rucker, Keith (Kristen) Rucker, and Gary Rucker; grandchildren, James, Lucas, Elijah, Emi, and Reilly Rucker; sisters, Lynne (Michael) Borchert (her twin) and Nancy Simmons; brother, Alan Briggs; sister-in-law, Katherine Briggs; and nieces and nephews, Christopher and Sean Borchert, Brian Simmons, Kari Ann Wolf, and Dan, David, and Katy Briggs.
A memorial visitation will take place from 2:00pm until funeral service at 4:30pm, Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Road, Cary, IL 60013. Rev. Tim Perry will be officiating. Interment will be private. Final arrangements entrusted to Kahle-Moore Funeral Home. For more information, call 847-639-3817.
