Juan R. "John" Tanon passed away in Gettysburg, PA on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the age of 56.

John was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on December 22, 1961 to Lourdes (Diaz) Tanon and the late Roberto Tanon. A graduate of Gettysburg High School, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. During this time, John volunteered with Adams County Television as a camera operator covering local sports. He began his long career with the government at Letterkenny Army Depot upon graduation and moved on to the United States Environmental Protection Agency before retiring in 2017 after decades of service.

John is lovingly remembered by wife, Sue (Smale) Tanon; son, Blake Tanon and daughter-in-law, Emily Stewart of Princeton, NJ; son, Shea Tanon, his partner, Alayne Holland and granddaughter, Savannah Marie of Gettysburg, PA; mother, Lourdes (Diaz) Tanon of Tallahassee, FL; mother-in-law, Bernice Smale of Gettysburg, PA; brother, Roberto Tanon and sister-in-law, Casey Tanon of Stockton, CA; sister, Lydia Miller and brother-in-law, Michael Becker of Berlin, MD; sister, Maria Lourdes Revercomb and brother-in-law, Robert Revercomb of Shade Gap, PA; sister, Lizette Hess and brother-in-law, Jeffery Hess of Bedford, PA; half-brothers, Juan and Roberto Tanon of Orlando, FL; and a number of cousins, aunts, nieces and nephews.

John was an energetic soul and never without a smile, will he be remembered for his unique ability to create a lively atmosphere everywhere he went. He was known for his humor, loving character and compassion for everyone in his life. John was close to his grandmother Felicita Redondo, providing care and support in her later years. He enjoyed above all, living a healthy and happy lifestyle. John had a passion for animals and adored his pets, nature and the outdoors.

A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A private celebration of life will be held following the service for family.
