Michael Walsh Obituary

WOODSTOCK – Michael Shawn Walsh, 40, a longtime resident of Woodstock, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Centegra Hospital – Woodstock in the company of his loving family, culminating a lifelong battle with a debilitating illness.

He was born July 1, 1969, in Mount Prospect, to Edward and Terri Hooper Walsh. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Algonquin. He was a 20-year client of Pioneer Center in McHenry and also worked at various jobs in its Skill Center. He was a longtime member of The Horizon Association of Group Campers and participated in many of its activities. He enjoyed playing card games on his computer. He was an avid wrestling fan and also enjoyed a good movie. He possessed a fondness for animals, particularly the company of his cat, Joey. He was an expert on the culture and country of Ireland.

In spite of his handicap, he maintained a wonderful, sunny disposition. He forever was expressing his gratitude to his caregivers for their efforts to make him comfortable. He will be sorely missed by a host of friends and family members, to whom he showed that despite his physical problems, you still can live every day in a fulfilling manner. In keeping with his philosophy of life, it is written, "When through one man a little more love and goodness, a little more light and truth come into the world, then that man's life has had meaning."

Survivors include his mother, Terri Hooper Walsh Craig; his stepfather (dad) Richard Craig; a sister, Joan Taber; a brother, Richard Craig II; and his special friends, Olga Klocek and Adam Boetcher.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Walsh Sr.; one brother, Edward Walsh Jr.; a sister, Colleen Maria Walsh; his paternal grandparents, Edward and Bernadette Walsh; and his maternal grandparents, Ernest and Mary Hooper.

Inurnment and graveside services will take place at a later date. Memorials bequests may be made to the Pioneer Center of Horizon Association of Group Campers.

He and Kelly were both great friends at camp. Lots of good memories. The Friendship Stick he made me at Camp Wonderland many, many years ago is still in my living room. He's always been loved and will continue to be!

My heart goes out to you now and in the days ahead. Mike was an exceptional young man I had the priveledge of knowing for 5 years.
He was always smiling and let others know that he appreciated any small thing you were able to do for him to make his life a little easier.
My only hope is that I was able to give to him as much as he did to me on a daily basis. He will always have a special place in my heart...May God hold the families hand during this time of grief. Keep all your memories close to your heart and they also will help you through this difficult time.

Ongoing Prayers for your family,

~
