Orvis Leon Goad, 96, of Woodstock, passed away May 5th peacefully with his loved ones at his side.
Orvis was born on October 29 1927 to Frank and Katie Goad in Gamaliel, Kentucky. After losing his parents at a young age, he would work on farms and labor jobs until he arrived in McHenry County in 1947 and began working for Anderson Tree Service. He purchased the business shortly after.
In 1948, Orvis met Elaine Rogers at the Rose Farm in Woodstock. Orvis and Elaine were wed on April 8th 1950 and would have four children together, Robert, Donald, James, and Suzanne. Orvis continued to operate and manage Anderson Tree Service until his retirement in the year 2000.
Once he entered his retirement he enjoyed camping, fishing, bargain hunting, attending Woodstock Moose Club events, and spending time with his family and friends at his Arkansas winter escape home. Orvis achieved lifetime membership status at the Woodstock Moose, he loved to attend the club for all their social gatherings and events or just an afternoon pool game with his close friends.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Robert (Sara) Goad, Donald (Toby) Goad, James (Donna) Goad, and Suzanne (Jamey Koch) Livingston; his grandchildren, Becky D'Andrea, Robert (Stephanie) Goad, Scott Goad, Amy (Bill) O'Brien, Carrie (Jamie) MacDonald, Cory (Courtney) Hunt, Olivia Hunt, Kirby (Scott) Dively, Jessica (Joe) Kozar, Lauren (Kevin) Schlendorf, Dana (Rob) Meyers, CJ (Jessica) Gallant, and Michael (Gabby) Gallant; great-grandchildren, Darby D'Andrea, MeKenna D'Andrea, Mackenzie Goad, Declan Goad, Tommy O'Brien, Emma MacDonald, Ava MacDonald, Cam MacDonald, Harper Dively, Hayden Dively and Hunter Dively.
Orvis was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and Katie Goad and siblings, Bose, Enola, Olene, Cecil, Opal, and Kathleen.
A visitation will be held on May 10, 2024 at the Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave. Woodstock from 9:00 am until the 11:00 pm Funeral Service. Interment services to follow at Oakland Cemetery.
A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Woodstock Country Club, 10310 Country Club Rd, Bull Valley.
While flower are appreciated, Orvis would greatly appreciate a memorial tree planted in his honor.
