Rita Ann Senn, most fondly known as Bub or the Bubster, died on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at the age of 95. Rita was born on September 16, 1930 to Anna and John Hogan in Chicago, Illinois. Rita was preceded in death by her sons Mark and Jay, her parents, her husband Irv, her brother Ed and her granddaughter Mercedes.
Rita was born and grew up in Chicago until moving to McHenry in 1975. In Chicago she met and married her husband Irv on July 24, 1948. Rita and Irv had 6 children: Steve, Mark, Jay, Lindah (Cary), Victoria (Craig) and Sheila (Tony). She had 14 grandchildren: Audrey, Paul, Dana, Matt, Kristan, Mercedes, Leah, Mekenzye, Caleb, Julian, Avalon, Holden, Sawyer and Oliver. She was a great-grandmother to 7 and a great-great-grandmother of 2.
Rita spent the first part of her career working as a bookkeeper for the Jewish United Fund and at the age of 60 decided to pursue her lifelong passion of opening her own dance studio, operating it out of her home for the last 30 years. She was passionate about family, dancing, teaching, fashion and fitness. If there was music, she was dancing and she would endeavor to get those around her dancing as well. She loved all things country western, and she was fortunate to make many lasting connections through her teaching and going out line dancing with her friends throughout the years.
Rita did not believe that age was a defining factor in what one could or should do. In that spirit, she competed regularly in the McHenry River Run, and at the age of 70, completed the Chicago Marathon. She also competed a few times in the Ms. Senior Illinois Beauty Pageant, where she enjoyed singing, dancing and getting all dressed up!
Rita was a lover of life, anyone who knew her felt this. Until her final days she held some hope that she will "beat this." One of her favorite things to say about herself was "you can't kill a weed." She will forever be remembered for her fighting spirit and general irreverence. Love you mom, we'll see you when we see you.
