Robert 'Bob' Henning
Born: February 1, 1955
Died: February 15, 2023
Robert "Bob" Henning passed away peacefully on 02/15/23.
He was born in Chicago on 02/01/55, to Willard and Dorothy (Keller) Henning. As a young man growing up in Lake in the Hills, IL, Robert became an Eagle Scout and also participated in local baseball leagues. He was a member of The National Honor Society and played both high school baseball and football. He was a 1973 graduate of Irving Crown High School (Carpentersville, IL). He attended Aurora College on a baseball scholarship, transferred to George Williams College (Downers Grove, IL), earning a BS in Applied Behavioral Science. He later received a Master of Education from Harvard University (Cambridge, MA).
Robert met his best friend, Marsha Bailey while working at the NFL Players Association camp in MA. They exchanged vows overlooking Capistrano Beach in CA. CA was their home for the next 35 years! Robert had a compassionate heart, free-spirit, amazing intellect and a unique punny wit. A lover of music, especially the blues, his vast vinyl collection is like no other. The Chicago Cubs and the Bears were his teams. He always carried his Die-Hard Cub Fan Club membership card. Proudly, his card was accepted as a valid ID to re-enter the states from Canada! Robert dedicated his life to non-profit organizations such as: Canine Companions for Independence as the National Charitable Gift Planning Officer, American Red Cross, American Diabetes Association, Goodwill Industries and YMCA, to name a few.
He is survived by his younger sisters, Grace (George Bender) and Carol (Robert Herley), his dear niece, Elizabeth Bender Henning, precious cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his sweet Basset Hound, Fred. A tribute will take place on 07/30/23 at 12 with music/food to follow from 12:30-3:00 at the Labahn-Hain House, 149 Hilltop Dr, Lake in the Hills, IL 60156.
