Barbara Butcher Obituary

Barbara Marie Butcher

05/12/1947 - 05/13/2023

Pendleton - Barbara M. Butcher (nee Benson), 76, passed away on May 13, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital - Anderson surrounded by her family members and a dear and devoted friend.

Barb was born in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of James and Irene (Adamchik) Benson. She grew up and spent much of her life in Northwest Indiana, graduating from Bishop Noll Institute in the class of '65. She at attended both Sawyer Business College and Purdue University Calumet, where she met the love of her life in her future husband Bob.

Serving as an executive secretary, Barb enjoyed a long career in downtown Chicago working at the Palmer House, Conrad Hilton, and Playboy Towers. She eventually transitioned back to NWI, with V&L Plumbing, then Action Plumbing working in the office and helping with kitchen and bathroom design. Barb gave back to her community, serving as a member of Tri Kappa, Epsilon Omicron Chapter in Munster-Highland, where she also served as President, and in the Gamma Pi Associate Chapter when she moved to Pendleton, Indiana.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Barb is survived by her son, John Butch er, also of Pendleton; her two loving grandsons: Noah Butcher and Warren Butcher; her great-grand daughter, Andi Rose Butcher; her siblings: James Benson (Judy) of Columbus, OH; Mary Beth Hicks (Michael) of Crown Point, IN, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Robert Butcher; her daughter, Elizabeth "Bethie" Butcher; and her younger brother, Robert Benson.

Barb and Bob were blessed with many extraordinary friends, none more so than her "partner in-crime" Jane Pierson (Ken), of NWI and Pendleton, who remained her loyal and steadfast companion and support for many years and through her final days.

Barb and Bob loved to travel, especially throughout Western Michigan. She was an avid reader and loved antiques. Devoted to her family and many friends, Barb will be remembered for graciously hosting countless gatherings at her home, both in Dyer and Crown Point, and NEVER failing to send a card or note for birth days, anniversaries, or special events. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years at St. Mary's in Crown Point. Her friendly smile, love of the music she and her siblings grew up with, and her patient and loving nature will be missed by all.

A funeral mass will be held Monday, July 3 at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Crown Point, IN at 11 AM with Father Don Lewandowski officiating. Contributions may be made to Share Foundation, serving other-abled adults, at sharefoundation.org.

Such a beautifully written Obit which describes the Barb that I knew to a T! A childhood friend through grade school & H S, we also have happy memories of those occasions my husband & I enjoyed with Barb & Bob. Rest In Peace, Sweet Lady, in the arms of The Lord, with Bob & Bethie again at your side.
