Clifford Lunkes Obituary
February 7, 1939 – August 31, 2025.
Clifford "Cliff" Allan Lunkes, age 86, of Leesburg, FL, passed away on August 31, 2025. Born in Crown Point, IN, he graduated from Crown Point High School in 1957 and enlisted in the United States Army, honorably discharged as CPL in June of 1964. Cliff also served 30 years with the Lake County, Indiana Sheriff's Department, retiring as Captain in 1994. After relocating to Florida, he spent 27 years at Ace Hardware in Fruitland Park. Cliff was a devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Leesburg Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue (Nannenga) Lunkes; children Karen (David) Piercy, Kathleen (Andrew) Horner, and Kristine Chambers; Grandchildren Amelia and Timothy Claus II "TC", Blake, Garrett, Dylan, and Claire Horner, and Jacob and Nicholas (Kaley) Chambers; and great-grandchildren Coastin, Jameson, Bella, Warren, and Adeline. He is also survived by his brother Dennis (Ilse) Lunkes and niece Laura (Travis) Wilson.

Cliff and Sue were our neighbors in Crown Point, Indiana for many years. They were such good people to have as neighbors. Cliff and my husband Dale loved doing projects together from building our yard barn to building a porch at our camper at Broken Arrow Campground. Their daughter's were polite sweet girls and just as pretty as their Mama. We missed them when they moved. My thoughts and prayers go out to Sue and the family. Heaven gained another angel

Captain Lunkes was a good man and a fine example to many a young officer as we struggled to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to exceed in our new careers on the Lake County Sheriff Department.

So very sorry for your loss. Cliff was a good guy and as a rookie cop helped me out and tried to keep me out of trouble. Sometimes it worked and others it didn't, but he was always there and a smile on his face. A good member of the FOP and always showed up if in town.
