Consuelo Acosta (nee Orta), age 87, of Schererville, Indiana formerly of East Chicago, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. She was born on May 9, 1938, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Fortunato and Martina Orta. "Chelo" was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Familia was very important to Chelo, cooking was her passion, providing family and friends with a home cooked meal. She cooked with lots of love. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roberto P. Acosta, son Roberto O. Acosta, and son-in-law Oscar G. Pulido. Chelo is survived by children- Juan (Laura) Acosta, Jose (Maria Elena) Acosta, Alice Pulido, and Mary (Tom) Miksich. She is also survived by grandchildren- Araceli, Eric, Robert III, Arturo II, Selena, Michael, Jessica (Balam) Mendez, Dr. Suzanna, Mark Anthony (Yvette), Oscar Luis, and Jose Antonio. Also surviving are great grandchildren, and cousins- Francisco and Yolanda Orta. Family always came first to her. She will be missed tremendously by all of her family and close friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 3 pm - 7 pm at Burns Funeral Home and Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, Indiana 46307. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10 am at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, Crown Point. Rev. Thomas E. Mischler officiating.
