HIGHLAND, IN - Dennis J. Tobin age 85, of Highland, IN, passed away January 2, 2024. He is survived by his children, Michael (Dawn) Tobin, and James Tobin; grandchildren, Brittani (Drew) Faber, Mickey (Lauren) Tobin and Skilar Tobin; great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Ruby Faber; his sister, Eileen Fiala and his cat Leo and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Judy) and son, Joseph.
Dennis was born May 21, 1938 in Hammond, IN and was a graduate of Hammond High School. He married the love of his life Mary (Judy) and they settled down to raise their family in Highland.
He enjoyed his family and his cat Leo, he was one of the founding members of St. James The Less Catholic Church, he loved planning the family reunions and visiting with his relatives and friends. Dennis served as President of the Town of Highland; and was involved with the Lake County Library Board. Dennis retired from Guarantee Reserve Life Insurance Company and later went on to work in the Lake County Surveyors office and the Lake County Clerk's office.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at HILLSIDE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 8941 Kleinman Rd. (one block south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN. A burial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Church 9640 Kennedy Ave. Highland, IN. Burial will be at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN

Dear family of Dennis Tobin, my heartfelt condolences to you all. Mr. Tobin filled in for our last semester as our 8th grade teacher back in 1966 at St. Joe's. Denny was always kind, and always made us think, but you all, already know that. We need more folks like Denny Tobin in this world, kind & caring. God bless .

Dear Family.
So sad to hear of Dennis passing. I met Dennis in 2010 when I joined the Clerks Office. Not one was he a co-worker but quickly became a good friend. Dennis was a caring and giving person who was always there when needed. He will definitely be missed. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Know that God is here for you and He will continue to bless you as you go through this difficult.
