Emily Pivarnik Obituary

Emily R. Pivarnik (nee Baran) Hammond Emily R. (nee Baran) Pivarnik, age 75, of Hammond, passed away Friday, January 23, 2004. Born March 19, 1928 in East Chicago, IN, graduate of St. Stan's, 1942 and Roosevelt High School, 1946. Yearbook Editor of the Round Up. She was voted "Mother of the Year" for her work with the Mentally Challenged. Emily and her late husband, John, played Polish and Slovak music as strolling musicians. Emily on her accordian and John on his boomba. She was past President of the St. John Bosco Altar and Rosary Society. Secretary of the Senior Citizens for thirteen years. Survivors include one son, J. Michael (Joanne) of Schererville; three daughters, Karen (Stephen Borsuk) Ganz of Schererville, Gina (John) Gawron of Hammond and Marybeth, with whom she made her home. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Cortney and Andrew Pivarnik; Eric and Todd Ganz and Johnny, Allison (fiance Greg Adkins) Ryan and Nicole Gawron; and family dog, Taylor. Funeral services Monday, January 26, 2004 DIRECTLY AT St. John Bosco Church, Hammond, IN. Emily will lie in state at the church from 9:30 A.M. till 10:00 A.M. Mass with Fr. Richard Orlinski officiating. At rest, St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home, 7109 Calumet Ave., Hammond. Prayer service 2:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Emily was an avid poker and bingo player. Wonderful Mom and Grandma. She will be forever missed by all that knew her.

Mary Beth,

I am in Florida for two months but read the paper online. I was so sorry to hear of the death of your Mother. What a great lady. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Thank goodness for wonderful memories.
