This past week I received the latest edition of the Ball State Alumni magazine. With sadness, I read about Ernie's passing in May. We shared classes at the high school and college levels. His smile lingers in my mind. A first rate guy that will be missed by many.

I flew a trip with Ernie in October 2003. That was the only opportunity I had to fly with him, but he stood out to me because everyone we ran into knew him and genuinely liked him. A few even expressed to me how much they liked working with him. I was impressed by the positive influence he had on those around him.
I am sorry for your loss.

Josie--
I'm very sorry to hear about Ernie. He and I were very good friends in high school and Ernie spent many hours at our house which was only a block from his home on Indianapolis Blvd. He was a wonderful person and I really enjoyed our friendship. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers

As a friend of Selena's in college, I was able to meet Ernie and enjoy his sense of humor. He always had a smile for Selena's friends and his warmth was always appreciated. My heart goes out to Josie, Haven and Selena - you are in my thoughts and prayers. Ernie will be missed.

Dear Josie,
Larry had the honor of flying with Ernie the month of April 1987. You and I flew down to Acapulco earlier in the day, to spend their layover with them (attached is a picture). I had been married less than a year, and you had at least 10 years and two kids by then. I learned so much from you that afternoon about marriage and children. The four of us went out to dinner that evening by the cliff divers. Remember how hot it was? Larry and I have always remembered that trip because we went from being strangers one day, to friends the next. It was a blessing to spend time with two happily married, kind, good-natured people, and loving parents too. For the next 20 years, every time we’d see Ernie at work, he’d always have a smile on his face, and update us on his family. He loved you and the kids very much, and it showed when he spoke of you.
When we heard the tragic news, both of us cried for your loss. Ernie was a good man, whom every one liked. It was truly a privilege knowing him and working alongside him at American Airlines. Ernie will be missed. We are so sorry for your heartache, and pray that God will soften your pain. We pray as time goes by, you’ll be able to smile again as you remember the happy times with Ernie. God bless you and your children.
Blessings,

I played football with Ernie at Clark, class of 1967. Although there may have been more people physically gifted than Ernie, none matched his determination or his ability to never give up on a play. It appears he lived his life in the same way. Although I have not seen Ernie since HS, his dry quiet humor and ever present smile will always be with me. Condolences to the family of a great great guy....

I graduated with Ernie 42 years ago from Clark HS. He will be missed and I am saddened by his passing. The reason I remember Ernie was his good nature, and just being a nice guy. Even after 42 years, he and his name stand out. Many others are forgotton, but not Ernie! Thank you God for sharing him with us for awhile. Take good care of him. I'll miss you.
