Frances Stood Obituary
Frances E. Stood passed away on February 21, 2013 in St. Thomas Hospice, LaGrange Memorial Adventist Hospital, LaGrange, IL. She was born in Hoopeston, IL on January 11, 1920 to the late Franklin B. Cartwright and Bessie Goldie Griffin Cartwright. On May 9, 1939 she married Werner G. Stood who preceded her in death on August 4, 2008. Frances is survived by her daughters: Nancy F. (Russell) Cawthon of Burr Ridge and Dolores Bailiff of CA; son, Edward (Margaret) Stood of Indiana; grandchildren: LaQuita (Nick) Wiseman, Vicki (Charles) Shaw, Denise (Erik) Adelsen, Paul (Reda Nelson) Cawthon, Bryan (Jennifer Marson) Hurley, Cheryl (Tim) Hazlett, Kelly (David) Ufberg, and Elizabeth (Michael) Evans. She was lovingly called "Big Grandma" or "Grams" by her great grandchildren: Ashleigh Slamann, Brice Slamann, Jack Hazlett, Hayden Evans, Ethan Hazlett, Vivian Evans, Mason Ufberg, Avery Ufberg, and 1 1/2 year old Sedona Cawthon. She is also survived by her brothers: Alex (Shigeko) Cartwright and Virgil (Betty) Cartwright; sister, Jean Violet (Fritz) Mietzner; stepsister, Roberta Cleone Crothers; and many nieces and nephews. Frances loved her garden of beautiful flowers, having a cup of coffee ready for all visitors, reading, and a clean and glistening home. She was employed by Continental Insurance Corp. for over 25 years, a member of the Hoopeston Historical Society and the National Society of the DAR chapter Schuyler Colfax, and a lifetime member of First United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hammond, IN. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Schroeder- Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing. Interment will be at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. I worked with Frances at Continental Insurance until she took retirement. Enjoyed talking to her. I looked forward to hearing from her at Christmas time to see what she would tell me. Will miss her. Thought of her often. My mom passed away four years ago and you do not know how much you will miss your mom until she is gone. Remember the good times and know she will always be watching over you no matter what you are doing. Moms never stop loving you. Take care .
