Werner Stood Obituary
Werner Gustav Stood, age 92, of Calumet City, IL, a gentle and kind man, went to Heaven peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2008. Mr. Stood was born in Chicago, IL to Fritz and Hildur Stood on November 30, 1915. He graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago. Mr. Stood is survived by his wife of 69 years, Frances (nee Cartwright); three children: Edward (Margaret), Nancy (Russell) Cawthon and Dolores Bailiff; seven grandchildren; eight grandchildren; one brother, Sidney (late Mardel) Stood; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. from the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL with Rev. Bassam Abdallah officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mr. Stood's church, 1st United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6705 Hohman Ave., Hammond, IN 46324 would be appreciated.

I can still remember Uncle Werner as he sat on the enclosed front porch at Grandmother's house when he and aunt Frances would come to visit. Sometimes on the green and white "metal glider", sometimes in a chair. Always ready to enter into conversation with the "young" or "old" - and at times a little snooze before the drive back to his home. Very fond memories indeed.
