FRANK J. HOLLIS MUNSTER, IN
Frank J. Hollis, age 98 of Munster, IN, formerly of Lansing, IL, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017. Mr. Hollis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 75 years: Ethel T. Hollis. Mr. Hollis is survived by their three children: Karen (Thomas) Dockweiler, Marsha Hollis, and James (Jane) Hollis; grandchildren: Amy (Jeffrey) Sullivan, Thomas (Christy) Dockweiler, David (Sarah) Dockweiler, Becky (Richard) Meixensperger, Bryan (Jacki) Bollerdorf, Peter (Katie Jo) Hollis, and Laura Hollis; 13 great grandchildren: Peyton, Cooper, Erin, Grace, Noah, Finley, Austin, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Ethan, Eli, Ava, and Hallie Jo; sister: Charlene Uhles; and sister-in-law: Mildred Albert. In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Hollis is preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Tora Hollis; brothers: Gerald, Robert, and Harry; and sister: Louise Lyder. Friends are invited to visit with Mr. Hollis' family on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Mr. Hollis' grandson, Rev. David Dockweiler, officiating. Interment will follow, with Military Honors, at Oak Glen Cemetery in Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Hollis' name to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 18100 Wentworth Ave., Lansing, IL 60438. A member of the Greatest Generation, Mr. Hollis joined the US Army in July, 1942, just seven months after marrying his wife, Ethel. He honorably served our country during WWII and was a part of the Normandy Invasion forces D-Day +3. He returned home from the war in December, 1945. Mr. Hollis was born in Lansing, was a lifetime member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, and graduated 8th grade from St. John School. He also graduated from Thornton Fractional High School. After the war, he worked at Youngstown Steel and retired as a Mason Foreman. He was a member of the VFW; he loved fishing, golf, woodcarving, and enjoyed playing billiards and pinochle. I remember Mr. Hollis as one of my coaches for my Pee Wee league team, the Yankees. I also hung around his son Jim in highschool. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Hollis will always be considered a HERO for serving our country during a time when fighting for our freedom was essential. Thank you Sir and May God hold you in the palm of his hand. Rest in Peace.
