Gerald Blissmer Obituary

GERALD "JERRY" BLISSMER Gerald (Jerry) Blissmer, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, IN. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Diana (Ryba) Blissmer. Gerald is also survived by three daughters: Lori Anne Elizabeth Angel (Scott), Jennifer Costello (Tim) and Melissa Jasieniecki (Darren). He left behind four siblings: Linda Gamblin (late Gerald), Joyce Crook (Joe), Tom Blissmer and Jan Planer (Larry). He was preceded in death by his father, William Blissmer; mother, Verna Wolak; sister, Audrey Sasseen; and brother, James Blissmer. Gerald graduated from Thornton Fractional North High School in 1963. He was the former owner of Highland Auto Parts and Action Auto Supply. He was currently employed by The University of Chicago as a Building Engineer. Gerald was a member of The Knights of Columbus at Holy Spirit Church in Winfield, IN. Gerald's interests included fishing, trains, antique cars, tinkering in the garage, building/fixing anything and more fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren in their various activities. Gerald is survived by eight grandchildren: Craig (Tracy), Jacob, Nick, Samantha, Joe, Timmy, Molly and Anthony. He also leaves behind his special canine friend, Maggie. Known for his unique sense of humor and better-than-no- other- fish fry, Gerald will be deeply missed by family and friends. The void that he has left in the lives of those he loved could never be summed up in a simple obituary. "Jerry" left an indelible print upon everyone that he touched. He endlessly gave of himself to all those around him. If there was a need, he selflessly satisfied it. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre (two blocks east of Broadway) at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. I remember Jerry, as being a soft spoken, friendly, nonjudgmental, bright guy, all the way from our days at the Wentworth-Wilson school way back in the 1950s. Just a super individual, who I was blessed to know.

Diana, I will miss Jerry's dry humor. He was a blast. He also was very kind to my late Husband Vic. When we needed help he just stepped in & did his thing. I will miss Him for our New Years eve dinner with the Club girls & after playing games. He always would accuse us girls of cheating.. We were just smarted than them. We married the best that's how smart us Club Girls are.

While no other person can feel the pain of your loss, there are many who care and are praying for you, and I am among them. May the Lord comfort you with the certainty of Jerry being in His presence and wrap His arms around you through this time of grieving.
