Harweda "Rita" Samocki, 95 of Chesterton and formerly of Merrillville, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025. She was born on June 14, 1930 in Laurel County, Kentucky, the daughter of Denver Sasser and Mattie (Hinkle) Derdowski. Rita is remembered as a person who was passionate about her interests and possessed a generous spirit. For many years, she spent much of her time researching genealogy. Rita also found enjoyment in traveling and line dancing; she danced well into her 80's.
Rita is survived by her daughter, Stacia (Bob) Kendt; granddaughters, Amy (Rob) Boswell and Lisa (Bob) Hepner; great granddaughter, Kyrsten Boswell; sister, Billie Zeha; brother, Glendaire (Marlene) Sasser; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Samocki in 1991; son, Mark Samocki; and great grandson, Jacob Hanson.
In accordance with Rita's wishes, no services will be held with cremation taking place at Angelcrest Crematory, Valparaiso. Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso, entrusted with arrangements.
