Herbert Broaders Obituary

Herbert "Buck" Broaders, age 82 of Merrillville formerly of Gary passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus in Merrillville.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Eva; 2 sons, Ron (Karen) and Calvin (Linda) Broaders; 1 daughter, Sandra (Ernest) Scott; 3 grandchildren, Reed, Erica and Alyssia Broaders; 4 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Savannah Broaders and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025 11am at New Revelation Baptist Church 3140 W. 21st Avenue Gary with visitation from 9 to 11am prior to the funeral service. Rev. Edward Turner, officiating. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery in Griffith.
Mr. Broaders was retired from NIPSCO.

I remember "Buck," from our days at Peace Baptist Church especially when my family and his would get together after church and play some serious softball!! My Dad and Buck as well as Joe James and others with Reverend Frank Burns were the bedrock that started the church. My dad was pretty fast but no one and I mean no one was faster than Buck! Those were great times and there were plenty more of them. Superbowl's when the Steelers beat dem Cowboys, (sorry Ron!) and whole bunch in the middle. Buck was like a surrogate father to me and Angie and boy did we love Eva and him. Going to miss him forever! Love to the Broaders family as I share in your grief but rest assured he's having a pretty good time with my dad, maybe even a softball game with Peter or in heaven right now!

Mr.Broaders 'Herb,' was always a nice soft-spoken man. I will always remember how he encouraged me, during a period of time, when I was driving an old beater Family car, back, & forth to work. While other coworkers were gossiping, & snickering about my plight, Herb told me, he used my situation as an example, in his Sunday School Class. He said, he told his class, how I always held my head high, kept my peace, & ignored the mean spirited, naysayers! He said, no matter the situation, stand tall, keep focused, & move forward. That's been over 40, or so years ago, but his kind encouragement, blessed me.
May GOD BLESS, & COMFORT his Family.
