JAMES RICHARD CARR MELBOURNE, FL
February 1, 1930 February 9, 2016 James R. Carr of Melbourne, FL passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Jim Carr was born in Chicago, IL to his parents, Raymond M. Carr and Alberta K. Carr and resided in Valparaiso, IN during his childhood years. He attended both Valparaiso University (IN) and Syracuse University (NY) studying linguistics and mastering the Russian language. He served in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War and remained with the military with his work at the Army Language School as a instructor of the Russian language in Germany and Europe. He met and married Janet Yvonne Reese (1929-1986) of Fairmont, WV in September, 1953 in Arlington, VA and then soon began to work for the National Security Agency (NSA) in their linguistics department and Russian language school where he was afforded contracts of instruction in multiple locations in Europe. Upon return to the states, his only son, James Andrew Carr, was born in 1963 in Silver Spring, MD while he worked for the NSA at Fort Meade, MD. In 1965, Jim moved his family to West Berlin, Germany, to oversee and be an instructor of Russian at the US Army Foreign Language School. In 1970 Jim and his family returned to the states where they settled in the suburban Washington, DC area of Maryland (Silver Spring/Four Corners) where he continued to work for the NSA's Linguistics Department at Fort Meade, MD. Upon retirement in 1986 from NSA with 35 years of service for the United States, Jim and Janet moved to Cocoa Beach, FL. Jim was preceded to death by his wife, Janet Yvonne Carr (ne: Reese) on December 23, 1986 where she is interred today. Jim continued to lead a very active life until 2005 when he moved into assisted living in Melbourne, FL to live out his remaining years of his life. A very private but giving person, Jim always had a smile, was a very welcoming person who always asked "how are you today"? He enjoyed dancing, live jazz music, travelling, good beer and food and being around unique and special cars. Jim made everyone feel special and at ease and will be missed by the many that knew and loved him. He is survived by his son, James Andrew Carr of Milton, Georgia; his sister, Lorena Crise of Valparaiso, IN; his nephew, Michael McComber of Norcross, GA; his nieces, Laurel McComber of Seattle, WA and Laura Lee Danaher of West Lafayette, IN; and his sister in-law, Joan McComber of Winter Park, FL.
