Jane Miller Obituary

Our beloved mother, Jane Ellen Miller of Gold Canyon, Arizona passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024. She was 94.

Jane was a wonderful mother and the devoted wife to Theodore Miller for 66 years, Mother of 5 wonderful children, Allen (Jan Marie) Miller; daughters: Barbara (Alvin) Foote, Janelle (Bill) Endres, Brenda (Neal) Todd and Sally (John) Resch. She was blessed with 2 brothers, 1 sister, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Jane was surrounded by her caring and admiring family at her passing. Jane had a positive outlook on everything. She exemplified this strength, and devotion throughout her life. She will be deeply missed.

Jane was born on June 29, 1929, in Hammond, Indiana to Dale and Zelma George. Along with her brothers Larry, Danny, and sister JoAnn, she spent her childhood in Hammond and graduated from Hammond High School. She was in the orchestra and band and played the piano, piccolo, and flute. Additionally, she was a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, member of a jazz band, and played the organ/piano at her church. Jane met her future husband, Theodore Miller while in grade school and started dating after his return from WWII. When he asked, "Do you think you could spend the rest of your life with me?" She said "yes", and they were married on July 2, 1948. Jane and Ted started their family and lived in the Hammond, Munster, and Schererville, Indiana locale until retiring to Arizona in 2004.

While raising the family Jane often worked alongside her husband Ted who owned various gas stations throughout his life. Perhaps most well-known is Ted Miller's Friendly Mart on Kennedy Avenue in Highland.

An avid traveler, tennis player, golfer, card player, and huge Cubs fan, Jane's family and friendships encompassed all aspects of her life, and her faith in Jesus Christ guided her. Jane had a comforting wisdom and loved life in all its dimensions. May our fond memories of Jane bring solace in the days ahead.

A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on June 29th, Plum Creek Center at Elmer Miller Park, 222 Schulte St., Dyer, IN from 1-3 PM with a Service at 2 PM.
