Joan Thielbar, 97, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 31, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born on December 13, 1928, Joan graduated as salutatorian from Edison High School in Gary, Class of 1946. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Linda Thielbar and Sharon Helpingstine; grandsons, Steven (Ashley) and Matthew (Crystal) Helpingstine; great-grandsons, Gavin, Ben, and Sebastian Helpingstine; brother-in-law, Earl Pontius; numerous nieces and nephews; and grand dog, Buddy. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Ben; parents, James and Thelma Frank; sister, Jill Pontius; and son-in-law Herb Helpingstine.
Joan cherished time with her family and especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events. She also loved traveling and was a devoted fan of IU basketball.
Per Joan's request, there will be no services. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery in Gas City, Indiana.
