Mr Kachin was my teacher friend from across the hall at Ivanhoe in Gary. He was a role model to both children and teachers. His artistic talent was matched by few. He will be missed by so many. I will miss our yearly exchange of Christmas cards but will hold fond memories of him through my years.

My condolences to the Kachur family. Cousin John was a great influence to me with his artistic talent, wonderful wit and the "Kachur" sense of humor. As a child while visiting his father, my great-uncle John was always busy in his garage workshop creating beautiful woodworking projects, mostly religious objects that he would gift as Christmas presents. When I was about five years old, great uncle John sat me down next to him and drew a carousel horse, this was magic to me and inspired me to sketch and become an artist. I still have that carousel horse sketch. I was also fortunate to have cousin John is a fifth grade teacher at Pittman Square. I remember him as the go to guy for creating get well cards that would be signed and given to a teacher or administrator that was under the weather and needed well wishes. His artistic talents were also reflected in his classroom decor. Movie day in his classroom was a treat and our `window to the world´. Wonderful memories of a great man and his family. Love and God´s blessings to the Kachur family. Sincerely, Dale Rebar

He was 5th and 6th grade teacher in 68-69. He inspired to always want to be my best. I´m sure glad I was able to be a part of Pittman Square reunion 7 years ago.

I was saddened today to see that Mr. Kachur had passed away. I had many great teachers at Pittman Square in Glen Park but he was my favorite. When he was going to get married to his wife, I with the help of my parents organized a collection of money from my 6th grade class to give to them as a shower gift. Last year May after I posted in The Times newspaper about my 31st wedding anniversary, a couple weeks later I received a beautiful card & letter from him, it made my day to think he remembered me among all the students he taught. I sent him a thank you card immediately. I now wish I'd of posted this year in May for my 32nd, so I might have received another beautiful letter one more time. My condolences to his family, he was the best!

Mr. Kachur was my 5th and 6th grade social studies teacher in the early 80s at PittmanSquare Elementary. He was easily one of my favorite teachers, I remember him playing the old radio programs for us like the Shadow. He had an amazing impact on my life and I do not have the words to express how much he meant to me. Thankyou for your service to our community and our Country. Rest Easy Mr. Kachur, we'll take it from here sir! Prayers to his family in there time of grief and loss. May God wrap his spirit around you and comfort you. The world is a lesser place with Mr. Kachur no longer in it.
