JOSEPH MARTIN DZIEGLOWICZ EAST CHICAGO, IN
Joseph Martin Dzieglowicz, 89, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2011 at his home. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Stella; loving father to Martin J. (Rose Anne) Dzieglowicz of St. John and Carol Dzieglowicz of East Chicago; loving grandsons, Josef and Drew Dzieglowicz of St. John; sister, Sophia Tarka of Calumet City; brother in law Joseph (Magdeline) Sobus of Chicago and numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Martin J. and Caroline Dzieglowicz; mother in law and father in law, Dominic and Mary Tarka; sister, Chesterine Sobus; brother in law, August J. Tarka; brother in law and sister in law Peter and Helen Tarka; brother in law and sister in law, Joseph and Helen Spudic. Joseph was employed by Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company (LTV Steel) for 38 years. He was a 50 year member of American Legion Allied Post 369. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 717, American Polka Association, Polish National Alliance Lodge 3095 and Polish Women's Alliance Group 132. Joseph served in World War II from October 12, 1942 until December 28, 1945. He was in the Sixth Army-339th Engineer Construction Battalion and served in the Pacific Theatre. He received the Good Conduct medal, the Asiatic/Pacific medal, the Phillipine Liberation medal with six Bronze Stars, the Bronze Arrowhead, the World War II Victory medal and the Cold War medal. He also received a Meritorious Unit commendation and the Presidential Unit citation. He was honored for his military service and accomplishments by the Salute 2000 committee on November 9, 2000. Visitation will take place Monday March 28, 2011 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Burns Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave, Munster, IN. There will be a 3:00 p.m. prayer service. American Legion Post 369 will post colors at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 29 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Stanislaus Church in East Chicago with Monsignor John Siekierski officiating. Friends may gather in the church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at Chapel lawn Cemetery, Schererville. Joseph loved his Polish heritage. He enjoyed listening to polka music and was an avid polka dancer. He was a devoted father and grand father and will be deeply missed. A special thank you to care giver, Tracy Huffman, for her care and compassion. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus Church or Hospice of the Calumet Area.
