I rarely go to the Garden Web site so I didn't learn of Mr. Bapsts passing until today, February 12th, when I did go to the Rose Forum site and saw the post about Karls passing. I am shocked and saddened to hear that Karl is gone. He was a wonderful friend and helped me with sound advice about my roses. I gave him cuttings from my rose bushes and he drove down to Bloomington to select which plants he wanted cuttings from. Karl was a true gem. He will be sorely missed.

I will be featuring Karl's advice in an article I'm writing on roses in our spring magazine of "Life+Spaces" from South Bend. Karl was so helpful and generous with his comments. I'm so sorry to hear about this.

Karl was a high school classmate and a friend. I enjoyed visiting he and Nancy and seeing his beautiful roses. Karl worked hard and added so much to our class reunion committee. Every time I smell a sweet rose I will think of Karl with a smile.

I was a member of Duneland Rose Society for several years and had been down several times to the house to see and buy his wonderful roses. I am very sorry to hear of Karl's passing. I know you will hear this a lot, but his passion for gardening and roses in particular had a lasting impact on my life. Twice I had the privilege of spending time in person with this amazing man. May God be near in your time of grief.

I have communicated with Karl for years through email. He was always so helpful to everyone who had questions about growing roses, planting, buying them; anything at all to do with roses!
He will certainly be missed.

I worked with Carl at the Ford plant, and after he moved to Wheatfield I visited many times to see his beloved roses, and he gave me two roses, and even called one of them the Murph rose. A very lovely person, he actually was one of the very few supervisors that appreciated what he called his "good workers" I am sorry I won't get to visit him again in his glorious rose haven.

Karl was a wonderful friend and supporter of Taltree Aroboretum & Gardens and we will miss his passion and love of roses. Not only did his enthusiasm for these beautiful flowers inspire hundreds if not thousands of people over his lifetime, his indomitable spirit taught us many lessons about life itself. We will miss our dear friend and colleague. Be among the roses, Karl.

To Mrs. Bapst and family,
I met Mr. Bapst a few years back in a rose growing class at Taltree. He invited me to come see all his rose bushes at your home when I inquired about buying some plants. Not only did I receive the grand tour, but I heard all about the two things he loved most - his family and the roses.
I know that your memories of this dear man will be just as beautiful and sweet as his roses.
With heartfelt sympathy,
J. Buchanan
