Karyn Kelly Obituary

Karyn Susan Kelly Calumet City Karyn Susan Kelly, age 62, of Calumet City passed away Monday, July 18th, 2005. Born in Hammond to Stanley and Marjorie Kocur on December 3, 1942, she was the eldest of five children. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Michael; her children: Kerri Ellen Kelly, Sean M. Kelly and wife, Linda, Colleen Spengler and husband, Chazz, Kevin Kelly and wife, Nicole, Heather McLaughlin and husband, Jim. She also lives on forever in her grandchildren: Patrick, Paris, Mike, Anna, Christian, Tripp and most recently Katie; her mother, Marjorie Kocur; siblings: Rick Kocur, Janice Drew, Laurie Macintyre and Jackie St. Peters and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father; uncles: Ed and Joe Kocur and her grandson, Devon. Karyn lived a full and vibrant life. She worked as a teacher, and as a waitress, but spent over four decades as a uniquely talented travel agent, specializing in cruises. Her Catholic faith remained strong to the end, and Karyn spent all her waking moments spoiling her family with love. She'll be well remembered by the Elks of Indiana as their former First-Lady, and her life's achievement is the happiness, health and character of her husband, children and grandchildren. To her, that's all that ever mattered. A Memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, July 23rd at Our Lady of Knock Catholic Church in Calumet City, Illinois at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, she wished you would make a donation to the Indiana Elks Cancer Research Program at Purdue University (call Joseph A. Erp at 812-522-5264 or visit http://www.indianaelks.org ). Arrangements by Fife Funeral Home, East Chicago, Indiana, 219-398-3210

I am so sorry to just learn about Karyn's passing. I met her in the early 1980's when I was an airline sales rep and she was a travel agent. She was kind, passionate and funny. She helped me get a position teaching travel at South Suburban College in 1984. Seems like only yesterday when I would see her in her office at 201 N. Wells. The world seems like an emptier place without her. May Karyn rest in peace and may the many memories of her comfort her family. God bless Karyn's soul.

On behalf of the family, I thank everyone who has expressed wishes of caring and sympathy here and elsewhere. There was no one quite like my mother. She was funny, loving, earthy, smart, friendly . . . and I could go on for hours. She shared herself with everyone and made a distinct impression even on strangers. But if someone she loved needed her--needed money or assistance--she bent over backwards to help them even to her own detriment. If anyone sees this who did not know her . . . . I truly wish you had known her. Your life would be richer for it and the world is most definitely poorer for her absence.

Karyn will be missed greatly. As the grandma of my daughter Paris she was one heck of a good grandma. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
